HBF Life Insurance

HBF is a nationwide, non-profit health and life insurance provider with over 75 years in the health insurance space. They offer health, life, home, car, and travel insurance to their thousands of members across Australia.

Currently, HBF only offers two types of life insurance products: Ezicover Life Insurance and Ezicover Income Protection. You can learn more about both of these products, below.

The HBF brand of Life Insurance is called ‘Ezicover Life Insurance.’ This policy allows you to receive a lump-sum payment of $50,000 to $1,500,000 when the policyholder dies or is diagnosed with a terminal illness (with a life expectancy less than 12 months).

The highest level of coverage is available up to age 45. After that, the maximum policy amount is $1,000,000 until age 54, where it drops to $750,000. After age 59, the maximum payment is $500,000 until age 69.

As is the case with most life insurance policies, HBF offers an advance payment of $15,000 to cover funeral expenses. They also waive the first month’s premium.

Premiums for Ezicover Life Insurance are stepped, which means they typically increase over time as your age and risk increases. Inflation protection is also available for this product type.

HBF Income Protection is ‘Ezicover Income Protection.’ You can choose a benefit period of one, two, or five years with this policy. You can also select to be covered for injury and illness, illness only, or injury only.

Similar to most income protection policies, HBF allows you to receive up to 75% of your monthly income – up to $12,000 per month – if you are unable to work due to illness or injury. This benefit will last for the duration of your benefit period.

Like Ezicover Life Insurance, HBF offers the first month of coverage for $0 and provides inflation protection.

To make a life insurance claim with HBF, you will need to log into the myHBF webpage with your member number and password. From there, navigate to the ‘Claims’ tab and follow the instructions.
